Overview of Trenchless Technology for New Installations

Overview

In this section we shall be discussing Overview of Trenchless Technique for New Installations. Trenchless, as the name goes, is the method to construct an underground network without excavating continuous trenches. The networks can be of two types:

  • Allowing man entry &

  • Not allowing man entry.

Horizontal Directional Drilling falls under non man entry type i.e. where the excavation or drilling is conducted without sending a man underground. The technique is quite powerful and versatile for laying underground networks and crossing geological or man made barriers without disturbing the aboveground structures. This section deals with the introduction of various techniques generally employed to develop subsurface utilities.

Trenchless Technology

When an engineer is faced with a requirement to develop a utility network his options are to develop the same either aboveground or underground. Once the decision about location is made the next decision would be about the method of construction. In case of underground locations the next set of options, therefore will be executing the work through conventional method of open excavations or through Trenchless methods. Both have their limited applications and at locations where open excavations are not possible either due to natural or man made barriers or due to some of the functional requirements trenchless techniques offer a better and viable options. With functional requirements like higher depth of networks, safety and security of the networks as well as the environs trenchless at times is the only construction option....................for more details
