Horizontal Directional Drilling Basics

Trenchless Applications

Subsurface construction related to utility development and management has ample scope for the application of Trenchless Techniques. In general these techniques are used for the following Applications:

  • Water Supply Lines

  • Gas and Fuel Supply Lines

  • Electric Cables and Fibre Optic Lines

  • Sewer and Force Main Lines

  • Soil Pollution Treatment

Need Statement

Should we desire to identify the needs for subsurface construction following can be enumerated as the purpose to develop subsurface utility networks:

  • Creation of an underground passage to transport data/ energy/fluid without excavating continuous Trenches;

  • Crossing physical barriers with least disturbance to the natural environ;

  • Controlling the trajectory to avoid contact/accidental damage of other utilities;

  • Completing construction operations in the least time;

  • Controlling environmental degradation to a large extent.

There can be many more reasons for these applications and the decisions are to be taken on a case to case basis.....................for more details
