Why dig Trenches when there are better solutions
Possession of proper skills to execute a specific trenchless technique is an essential need for the success. Such skills are acquired through education, training, and practice. For ascertaining possession of essential skills by any candidate, testing and certification of those skills becomes imperative.
Further, testing and certification of worker skills have been explicitly defined in various codes of practice of trenchless techniques published by IndSTT. In most of the public procurements these codes are included as the part of contract conditions. It becomes imperative that the trenchless operators/technicians or surveyors must be tested and certified for the specific skills.
To address this need, IndSTT is conducting the Trenchless Technology Skill Testing and Certification Program. Through this program, working operators serving the trenchless industry, and desirous persons interested to enter the industry as operators/technicians/surveyors are being tested and certified under the directions of the IndSTT Board of Vocational Skill Certification (IBOVSC).
Recently constituted IndSTT Board of Vocational Skill Certification (IBOVSC), is set up as part of a national skill development mission to fulfil the growing need for skilled manpower in Indian Trenchless sector and narrow the existing gap between the demand and supply of skilled manpower. There is a compelling need to launch a nationwide skill development programme in a mission mode that will address the challenge of imparting the skills required to address the growing needs of Indian Trenchless sector.
On the recommendations of IBOVSC board members, the first phase of the mission was launched on the 16th July 2022 at Vishwakarma Partham, Faridabad and IndSTT Head Office at Nehru Place, New Delhi. In the first phase, the pre-existing vocational skills of individuals working currently in trenchless sector are being assessed and certified. As most of the operators/ technicians could be based on project sites, such assessment are being conducted on dual mode, online as well as physical, to enable the tests to be conducted on the project site or a central location to avoid/reduce dislocation of operators from the jobsite.
Upon successful completing of the first test the next test in the same phase is scheduled on 22nd August, 2022 in a dual mode, online as well as physical modes.
The testing in these tests is being done through a written test followed by individual interviews conducted by IBOVSC members and other senior expert from construction industry. In these interviews candidates shall have to face the jury and will have to demonstrate their knowledge of the technique. Candidates successfully demonstrating possession of minimum qualifying vocational skills shall be certified. For these tests, option of physical as well as online evaluation is open to the applicants. The online option is open for the operators/technicians based on project sites, to avoid/reduce dislocation of operators from the job site.
